The world is moving faster and faster and everything is supposed to become bigger and even more successful. We, however, remain on the ground and would like to start a future-oriented project.
What was originally a family house was rebuilt after three years and is the first of two buildings of the Bird of Paradise Lodge. The idea came from my mother and founder of the company Paradies Safaris Hildegard Keil. The lodge is located in the south of Arusha in the district of Njiro.
With currently 5 and after completion 11 rooms the lodge shall offer a quiet, individual and familiar retreat for travelers. Proximity to nature and sustainability is very close to our hearts and we express this, among other things, by greening and installing solar panels and rainwater tanks.
It wants to create a place of tranquility for our guests and a reason to live for people from the region. In addition to regionality, our focus is primarily on a sustainable mindset.
In our ten rooms we want to offer you an individual and relaxing stay.
We started the renovation of the family lodge in March 2015. In 2019, the time has finally come: After a nine-month trial operation, the lodge was officially opened on June 1, 2019.
Currently, the first construction phase has been completed (the conversion of the existing house) and thus five of a total of ten rooms can be occupied - the sixth room currently serves as a breakfast room.
In the next and final construction phase, a restaurant and four additional rooms are to be built.
Currently we offer five rooms for overnight stay. In addition to three rooms with double beds, there is also a double room and a triple room available.
With the completion of the lodge we would like to operate a total of ten rooms - true to the motto small but nice - so that a family atmosphere continues to prevail.
Our rooms are between 20 and 25 square meters in size. They are equipped with a king size Zanzibar bed with a muskito net, seating, a spacious dressing room and a private bathroom.
Instead of demolishing the existing family house and building a new one, we left the basic structure and removed some walls and added new ones.
The parquet flooring is 80 percent from an old office building, cleaned and relaid.
The hot water is heated exclusively by solar power with a roof-mounted solar system. It comes out of the tap scalding hot, so you should be careful.
Waste separation is not common in Tanzania. From the beginning our garbage is separated. We are supposed to be pioneers and role models.
Rainwater is collected in two water tanks of about 5,000 liters each and used for the maintenance of the lodge.
In the near future a photovoltaic system will be installed to make the lodge completely independent from the municipal energy supply.
Supporting people through education. With the help of interest-free loans, our employees can finance private projects such as the construction of their homes.
We have a guarded parking lot for both cars and caravans.
In addition to city tours where we pair you with a local guide who will show you around the city for a small tip, we organize day tours, safaris, mountain climbing as well as beach trips.
